Wanna taste the rainbow?

So, there I was this morning, munching away on a few smarties in bed when I found these colour-dripping images from the current exhibitionist issue of i-D featuring Saskia de Brauw, Dutch model extraordinaire who recently marked her spot as the face of the last Vogue Paris cover by Mrs R. I reckon you can tell exactly why I am a fan...

Sandra Blow

Blue Square, 2003.

Sandra Blow (1925-2006) was an English abstract painter from London. She studied at Saint Martins School of Art and Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Her work is well known for large canvases which experimented with abstract form, light, space, texture and rhythm. All in all Sandra Blow is one of the leaders of the post war British abstract movement.

short stories.

Whilst my preferred lass with a blonde crop Ms deyn seems to now have gone rather constantly M.I.A. on the international modeling circuit (with exception of a few editorials here and there) it seems there has emerged a new breed of girls embodying that exact aesthetic just maybe a tad updated (note the prevalent presence of all three ladies at balenciaga SS11). Milou van Groesen, Jana Knauerova, and Delfine Balfort all sport that distinguishing look and prove once again what a crop and some bleach can do for your career.

"Fabric is Everything" - Yohji Yamamoto

An absolute must-see for anyone passing by London via South Kensington during the next months, July 22 to be exact. The Yohji Yamamoto Exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum boasts over 80 original pieces displayed on white mannequins giving a thorough insight into the work of this exceptional designer, who actually only took up his studies at the Bunka fashion college, Tokyo after finishing a law degree in order to work alongside his mother, a seamstress. Additionally, you will find lots of interactive elements in the multi-media timeline accompanying the designs on display and ranging from interviews with his professor at Bunka over fashion show videos (make sure you check out Madness dancing in the Menswear AW04/05 show) to a Wim Wenders documentary and amazing collection catalogues shot by the likes of Paolo Roversi or Inez and Vinoodh.

For more details, making of, and peeks behind the scenes, you should check out the curator's blog.

perfect 10

Just picked up the spring/summer "Guerilla" issue of the fabulous 10 magazine (gotta love them for their witty writing style and well executed structure) and instantly fell in love with this editorial shot by Jeff Burton starring Prada's much buzzed about SS11 designs. Most of you may think, hang on, I know that girl. And yes, this is Sydney, the teenage beauty once famously captured by Hedi Slimane and now with next models.

Chelsea Boots

"Chelsea Boots (also known as dealer boots) are tight-fitting, ankle-high boots that originated in the Victorian era, and were originally associated with horse riding." as says Wikipedia. I will not deny a certain fixation on footwear, being a female being after all. Paired with my affection towards anything androgynous, these purfect Chelseas from COS were a simple no-brainer! On top of that, they resemble a certain Jil Sander model I recently found myself drooling upon in a Milanese shoe boutique. Double score, I'd say.

Dreaming of Another World

There is little that one can do in this city when everyone else is going mad for carnival than dreaming of another place. I admit, a rather cheesy introduction but I truly lack any intelligent words in terms of excitement for this masterpiece of an editorial that Tim Walker created for the March issue of Italian Vogue. Starring Guinevere van Seenus the images set in a haunted mansion create such an eerie atmosphere showcasing amazing couture gowns.
